Hehe, yet another reason Microsoft Word stinks. I found a stupid Macro virus floating around where I work today, and we have no anti-virus software. Also found out that our QuickBooks version is not Y2k compliant. Owell. I got some real work done, I made some changes to the MBGNet site, and started to do the Saltwaver Ecosystems part of teh site. Only the Shorelines section works right now.

I worked at school today, setting up computers, and there is this network utility called Network Administrator. It allows the network administrator to monitor the activity on any client computer, and basically spy out and see what a student is doing and making sure they aren't viewing any porn or anything. Well, another function allows one to use the microphone/speakers on the Macintosh to talk, and since the audio is transmitted through the network, there is a lag involved. Well, Eric, a person that works with me, and I, set up this little audio chat between one computer and another across the library, and it was hilarious because I looped the input on the sound card so it would amplify all the input, and since the sound card was sending all the output to the other computer, and the other computer was sending it back to my computer, and there was a lag in the network, anything you said into the microphone would send an endless echo that kept getting louder and louder until it became feedback. It was pretty hilarious, because @ certain times the network traffic would cause the lag to be as long as 2 seconds.
Another fun thing I did @ work was play around with an old Quantum SCSI-2 80MB hard drive that was had the cover ripped off. We plugged it in and turned it on, and it was funny, cause the drive would actually spin up, and the head would grind down against the platter.
One more cool thing: a person that works with me there, Dan, managed to set up our WinTerm server to serve a Netscape plug-in as a client. One could theoretically log into the WinTerm server, which serves our PC business lab, over the internet with the Netscape plug-in! That's really cool, it'll let students w/ a computer and internet to use MS Office online, and access their files! So that was pretty fun to watch work.

The main database where I work died today, and I had to go in and recover all the database files that were corrupted. It takes forever to recover 100MB Filemaker files.

When I first get to it, I MUST redo the Panorama Online site, it is quite outdated, and doesn't meet my standards anymore :)
I watched the first part of a nice movie tonight, called "The Langoliers". It has that Science Fiction twist, and very well written and produced. I like the way the feature group of people in the movie are just like random people, a random sample of very different people in society, under a very strange situation, and it shows how the collaboration of these people can help solve their problem. I also love how many different scenes show certain things about society, making the situations extreme so they stand out, it's just a very well written movie with lots of deep twists and turns to analyze. The second part is tomorrow night, I've gotta see it. I remember seeing this movie before a long time ago when I was a little kid, but I only remember the basic plot, and didn't get any of the nice drama, subtle details, or deep analysis that I'm figuring out now.
